Inflation bubble chart

How to read this bubble chart

This bubble chart shows the current annual inflation rate (consumer prices, change to the same month of the previous year) of about 190 countries, and for the annual interval the average inflation of the last full year, together with the change to the previous period in percentage points.

Every bubble is one country. The horizontal position and the color show the inflation rate (blue = deflation, white = about the 2 percent target of most central banks, orange to red = high inflation), the vertical position shows whether inflation rose or fell compared with the previous period (in percentage points), and the size is the square root of the absolute rate (limited to 0.25 to 100 percent): countries with high inflation or deflation are big, but a country with 130 percent does not fill the screen. A value beyond the edge of the chart is drawn at the edge, the tooltip shows the real value.

The rates come from Eurostat (HICP), the IMF (consumer price index) and the World Bank and are updated monthly. Countries whose newest value is older than three years are not shown.
