This bubble chart shows the Fear and Greed Index of CNN Business and the seven indicators it is made of (market momentum, stock price strength and breadth, put and call options, market volatility, safe haven demand, junk bond demand). The Fear and Greed Index itself is a score from 0 (extreme fear) to 100 (extreme greed), the other series are converted to such a score.
Every bubble is one indicator. The horizontal position and the color show the score (red = extreme fear, grey = neutral, green = extreme greed), the vertical position the change to the previous period in points, and the size is the distance of the score from the neutral value 50: the further an indicator is from neutral, the bigger it is. A value beyond the edge of the chart is drawn at the edge, the tooltip shows the real value.
The values come from the public data of the CNN Business Fear and Greed Index and are stored once a day. Only the Fear and Greed Index is a score by CNN. Every other indicator is converted here to 0 to 100 by the position of its latest value within the daily values of the last 365 days, turned around where a high value means fear (VIX, put and call ratio, junk bond spread). The change is the difference in points to the previous period.
